Welcome to Momentum Prep, where we use our skills to highlight your skills. We’re a group of college freshmen with a fresh and bold perspective on the college application process. We provide all-encompassing services ranging from college essay editing to standardized test preparation to Common Application assistance. Our goal is to empower students to fully use their passions and potential, which is why we provide affordable and flexible services that focus on the student’s growth. Momentum Prep uses an approach tailored specifically to each student and provides high-quality, individualistic guidance. We bring modernity and experience to the competitive college application process.
You may ask: what makes us worth your time? We know the college application process because we recently went through it, and therefore we’ll approach your own application with personalized and practical guidance. We’re also a team of individuals with very diverse interests. You may pick a tutor you would prefer to work with, or we will match you based on academic interests, extracurriculars, target schools, and more. Our wide range of interests, passions, and skills will help reinforce your application, essays, and standardized tests greatly in order to bring out your strengths and merits.

Meet the Team

Cassandra M.
Cassandra Marcussen is a rising freshman at Columbia University, where she majors in Computer Science - Mathematics and participates in the Music Performance Program. Cassandra is a John Jay Scholar in the Columbia University Scholars Program. Cassandra is a member of the Columbia Debate Society, Columbia University Orchestra, and Columbia Pops Orchestra, and she is an Event Coordinator for Columbia Women in Computer Science.
Cassandra is passionate about math, science, and technology. At Greenwich High School, she was the co-founder and co-president of the Girls Who Code club. Cassandra served as co-creator and project manager of club’s app, Under My Wing, which won Best in Nation in the Verizon App Challenge and $20k for the team. Cassandra was also awarded the Acorda Scientific Excellence Award for her work on Under My Wing. In addition, Cassandra is the recipient of the 2017 YWCA Brava “Next Generation” Award and is a National Merit Finalist and National AP Scholar.
Cassandra is experienced in tutoring students of all ages and regularly tutors in math, computer science, and writing. Cassandra also founded and runs an after-school coding course at Riverside Elementary School that teaches web design and app-making. She teaches computer science, web development, and robotics at Zaniac Learning.
Cassandra’s passions also extend to the arts; she has engaged in musical studies for thirteen years. Cassandra participated in the US All-Eastern Orchestra for cello and qualified for voice as well. She has taken part in the All-State CT Orchestra and Choir for multiple years. Cassandra has attended the Montecito International Music Festival, Kinhaven Music Camp, and Interlochen Arts Camp. Cassandra has played cello in the Norwalk Youth Symphony for eight years and sat as the co-principal cellist of the Principal Orchestra. She was also the principal cellist of the GHS String Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra. Cassandra also sings and plays the piano.

Michelle W.
Michelle Woo is a rising freshman at Princeton University planning to major in Computer Science. She is a U.S. Presidential Scholar, the Valedictorian of the Greenwich High School Class of 2018, a National Merit Finalist, and a National AP Scholar. She is a passionate STEM student but also has interests in english, government, and economics.
Michelle co-founded and co-presided over the GHS Girls Who Code Club (with Cassandra). She is the co-creator and lead developer of Under My Wing and has been awarded $20k for Best in Nation in the Verizon App Challenge and the Acorda Scientific Excellence Award for her work on the app. In addition to computer programming, Michelle is also passionate about science research. She has been doing independent research at the high school since sophomore year and spent two summers interning at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She has been recognized for her research as a Regeneron Science Talent Search Scholar and was awarded numerous accolades at the Connecticut Science and Engineering Fair and a silver medal at GENIUS Olympiad.
Michelle is an experienced tutor in a wide range of subject areas, including computer programming, mathematics, science, and standardized test preparation and has volunteered at Greenwich Summer School as a math tutor. As President of the STEM Explorers Program and founder of the Greenwich Coding Outreach Initiative, Michelle mentors children to foster a love of science and technology. Michelle also works with her local Special Olympics ice skating team as the lead volunteer coach and has been awarded the Gold Presidential Service Award.
Michelle has also been an involved member of Greenwich High’s Model United Nations and Debate Teams. She reached the Sweet 16 Round in the International Public Policy Forum essay-style debate competition and was awarded an Honorable Mention at the Washington Area Model UN Conference. She has been a competitive ice skater for over 10 years and was on the GHS Varsity Sailing Team.

Sarah X.

Shobhita S.
Sarah Xu is a rising freshman at Duke University where she plans to major in public policy with a minor in English.
Sarah is passionate about creative writing and journalism. She was editor-in-chief of The Greenwitch literary magazine and a reader for the national youth magazine Polyphony H.S. She has won a gold key from the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards and several Lillian Butler Davey Awards. Her writing has also been published by the New York Times Learning Network and YCTeen Magazine. She writes for the Greenwich Free Press and her journalism has been featured in the LZ Student paper, a newsletter sent by journalist Lauren Zalaznick.
Sarah is an experienced tutor. She regularly tutors in writing, math, and history. She has also earned over one hundred community service hours as a volunteer tutor for Greenwich Summer Schools and the Boys and Girls Club.
Sarah is passionate about economics, political science, and history. She helped develop the curriculum for the new ancient civilizations course at Greenwich High School. She was a member of the economics team that won second place in the state round of the Adam Smith Economics Challenge. As captain of the debate club, she has advanced to the round of 16 in the International Public Policy Forum Round of 16 and won first place in a Connecticut Debate Association tournament. She was also an intern at Gell, a start-up that encourages civic discourse.
Shobhita Sundaram is a rising freshman at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she plans to major in Computer Science and minor in Economics.
Shobhita is fascinated by artificial intelligence and its applications in driving groundbreaking innovations across multiple fields. She has conducted computational biology research as a research intern at Weill-Cornell, and as an independent researcher at Greenwich High School. Her research in developing diagnostic machine learning tools has been recognized by the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, the National Junior Science and Humanities Symposium, the National Security Agency, and the Columbia Pancreas Center.
Shobhita is an experienced tutor. She has spent four years teaching advanced programming at summer camps. She also co-founded Kodepal, a program that provides free computer science lessons in underserved communities.
Shobhita’s passions also extend to the humanities and arts. She is president of her school Debate Team, where she has extensive experience in mentoring novices in both oral and written arguments. Through seven years of debating, she has won numerous state-level competitions and advanced to the round of 16 in the International Public Policy Forum. She also enjoys writing, and has been recognized by the National Council of Teachers of English. Outside of school she enjoys playing tennis, playing the violin, and hiking.
